MADNESS IN MOUNT OLIVE?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the new political poster, The People's Choice, with both (Republican Dave) Scapicchio and (Democrat John) Mania on the very same poster. What people's choice?  How would the Democratic Party explain their candidate, Mr. Mania, on the same poster endorsing all the Republicans.   It's a Republican poster with a Democratic candidate on it.  The Democratic Party has to be in a state of utter confusion.  My skepticism was heightened when John Mania, the Democratic Candidate for mayor last year, was quick to accept the position on the Planning Board, on the day Scapicchio was sworn in as Mayor. Was that prearranged?  It appears Mania burns the candle at both ends.  Mt. Olive residents should vote for the Independent candidate, Walt Lata, and not throw your votes away.

Editor,

Like so many other voters I am confused by many of the issues being bandied about in Mount Olive. Who do I trust?  Who do I believe?  That is what voting comes down to.  I can say, however, there is one candidate I trust and believe in personally.  His name is Walter Lata and he is running as an Independent for Mayor in Mount Olive Township.  I have known Walt for over 6 years. During this time, I have come to know him well enough to trust his integrity, commitment, desire, and drive to help our town and its residents.

As a voter, I believe that a candidate such as Walter Lata is an obvious choice for Mayor. He has my trust and confidence, and my vote on November 2.

Best of luck to you Walt!

It’s good to know that there are people out there like you with good old fashioned values still, especially ones that want to run for elected offices. Far too often in today's “I need it now world” and “what’s in it for me society” people seem to forget about what’s good for the community. How many times today do you see someone run for and be elected to a position and then either abuse their power for their own benefit or to benefit their party or better still they seem to forget about what the people of the town need. These big party candidates, I truly believe, have lost touch with what’s real and they seem to turn a blind eye to the problems of the common man especially when it’s in their own best interest. Democrat-Republican candidates seem to have forgotten about the people the everyday common people the heart of any community the very same people that they are supposed to be representing. Many just seem to care about “the party” and to maintain the ideals of “the party”. If it’s a Democrat in office they don’t care if a Republican has a great idea to solve a problem, all they are concerned with is putting down the other guy to elevate themselves or should I say elevate “the party” they represent and visa versa.

I think a gentlemen like you Walt, can change things. I think because you like most of us are that common man of the community, you see the everyday waste of tax payer money, you know what our community needs. Many of these other candidates are controlled or pressured by what “the party” wants, not you, you have the opportunity to be a free thinker and have an open mind about how to solve a problem. How often have any of us seen or heard of a local, state or federal government agency handling things inappropriately. But what do we do? Instead of electing the bad apple out of office we either re-elect them or we just switch party. Well we tried one and that didn’t work so we’ll try the other. Are we just kidding ourselves, we have other choices.

People are afraid of change. People are afraid of stepping away from the big two party system. I think if we as a community could just for one minute open up our minds and step away from the red or blue candidate and listen to what a man like yourself has to say and about what you can do to help this town, I think they will be pleasantly surprised. I think because you have worked and lived in this town for many years you see first hand the waste, and you have a good idea about how to start correcting it. You may step on some toes; you may not be everyone’s best friend. But I do believe you will act in the best interests of our town.

I hope the residents come out to support you. You are a breath of fresh air. People we do have a choice come election day that choice should be for a independent free thinker, a man with good family values, a man that works for the town already, one that sees and knows what needs to be done. That man is Walt Lata!!!

God Bless you Walt and your family, I look forward to you being our new Mayor.

I recently attended my first "Meet the Candidates" event. I went away disgusted with the Republican and Democratic parties. I think I heard the Democrat say "11 months really isn't enough time to judge" the mayor. I thought that was the most ludicrous comment I have ever heard from a political candidate. When asked about tax issues, Mayor David Scapicchio mentioned something like taxes are going up and that's the American way.

Sounds like he is on the same wavelength as President Bush. Three years ago, Bush told the press that he is not interfering with gas prices because "that's the cost of doing business." Neither one of them struck me as having the taxpayers at heart. It was very apparent that Scapicchio was trying to attack the independent candidate, not the Democrat.

When asked the question, would any of the three candidates run for only two terms, Independent Walter Lata was the only one to say he would, and that he believed any politician in office for many years tends to get stale and forgets why he is in office.
