During the past year I attended classes at Rutgers, Center for Government Services. These classes are offered to elected officials or anyone interested to know how things in their town should be run. They were very interesting. The classes I have taken are:
Ethical Issues Facing Elected Officials
Powers and Duties of the Municipal Governing Body
Planning and Zoning for Elected Officials
Municipal Finance Administration for Elected Officials
Municipal Budget Process for Elected Officials, and
Conducting a Public Meeting
After completing the above courses, I received my Certificate in the Municipal Elected Officials Certificate Program. I think anyone interested in running for an office should take these classes so they can do things the right way from the start. The program also offers additional classes.
The problem with our elected officials is that those who have been in office never thought about how to better prepare for the position. They think they know what is supposed to be done. They really don’t. They need to take the classes.
